Alta Moda Brand – Since its founding in 1985, the luxury Italian fashion house of Dolce & Gabbana has been well-known worldwide for ready-to-wear collections, handbags, cosmetics, eyewear, and accessories. The ultra-extravagant Alta Moda collection was launched in 2012, and it has solidified its global reputation as a lifestyle brand in the decade since.

A Lifestyle Brand by Dolce & Gabbana

Alta Moda launched with an exclusive client list of only 100. However, in the ten years since its founding, Alta Moda has become known as a lifestyle brand that now attracts thousands to its annual show that is renowned for its glamour and decadence. Dolce & Gabbana takes inspiration for its Alta Moda line primarily from the wealth of Italian culture, but the fashion line is also positioned as a lifestyle brand by contributing to the definition of its clients’ ways of living through a tribute to a variety of art forms through its unique pieces and extravagant showcases.

Inspiration From Music

One of the ways that Dolce & Gabbana has aligned Alta Moda with an inspirational outlet is through its incorporation of iconic music in its presentation. Its first show in July 2012 opened in the ancient iconic Roman amphitheater with a performance of Bellini’s Bel Canto opera Norma. In 2016, Alta Moda’s show in Milan included clothing inspired by the heroines of Giacomo Puccini’s operatic heroines. The 2017 Alta Moda collection was dedicated to the masterpieces of the composer Giuseppe Verdi.

Inspiration From Art

In 2013, the Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda collection was inspired by symbols of Milan, and the event was influenced by mosaics in Venetian and Byzantine cathedrals. The 2017 show in Tokyo paid tribute to Asian engravings, Renaissance paintings, and Baroque fashion, and the show in Beijing was dedicated to Chinese art. In 2018, the Alta Moda and Alta Sartoria shows were held in Mexico City and were influenced by the art of painter Frida Kahlo.

Inspiration From Literature and Film

The first Alta Moda autumn/winter collection, released in 2012, was inspired by Luchino Visconti’s 1963 film The Leopard. In 2015, the brand’s Portofino collection became Dolce & Gabbana’s largest production with 80 performers and 94 models participating in the show inspired by Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. In 2018, the brand’s first New York show premiered at the New York Public Library, further proclaiming the influence of literature on the brand and its iconic pieces. In 2018, the Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda show premiered the Alta Gioielleria collection, which was created in tribute to The Betrothed, the first Italian historical novel. The 2019 collection of Alta Gioielleria was held in Palma di Montechiaro in tribute to the Italian prince and author Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa, and its winter event was held in the historical library Biblioteca Ambrosiana in Milan.
